Pressure Washing Frequently Asked Questions
General questions about pressure washing, soft washing, and surface cleaning.
What is the difference between pressure washing and soft washing?
Pressure washing uses high-pressure water to blast away dirt and grime from durable surfaces like concrete driveways and sidewalks. Soft washing uses low pressure combined with specialized cleaning solutions to safely clean delicate surfaces like roofs, stucco, and painted siding without risking damage. The right method depends on the surface material and the type of buildup being removed.
Is pressure washing safe for all surfaces?
No. High pressure can etch concrete, gouge wood, and force water behind siding if used incorrectly. That's why surface selection matters. Durable surfaces like concrete and brick handle pressure washing well, while softer or more delicate surfaces like roofs, stucco, and painted finishes are better suited to soft washing with low pressure and cleaning solutions.
How does soft washing work?
Soft washing applies specialized cleaning solutions at low pressure to break down organic growth—algae, moss, mold, and mildew—at the source. The solution dwells on the surface, killing the organisms and loosening grime, then a low-pressure rinse removes it. Because the cleaning is chemical-led rather than force-led, it cleans more deeply and lasts longer than a high-pressure rinse alone, without risking damage to delicate materials.
What is surface cleaning and sealing?
Surface cleaning targets flat outdoor surfaces like patios, decks, walkways, and driveways, removing stains, moss, and debris that build up over time. Sealing is an optional follow-up step that applies a protective layer to the cleaned surface, helping it resist future staining, moisture intrusion, and organic growth while enhancing its appearance.
How often should I have my property pressure washed?
Most properties benefit from exterior cleaning once a year, though the ideal frequency depends on shade, moisture, and surrounding vegetation. Surfaces under heavy tree cover or near standing water tend to grow algae and moss faster and may need cleaning more often. A regular schedule keeps organic growth from causing long-term staining or surface damage.
Will pressure washing damage my plants or landscaping?
When done carefully, exterior cleaning can be performed without harming landscaping. Delicate surfaces are cleaned with low-pressure soft washing rather than high pressure, and surrounding areas are protected during the process. It's always best to flag sensitive plants or features ahead of time so they can be accounted for.
Do I need to be home during the cleaning?
In many cases, exterior cleaning can be completed without you being present, as long as access to the surfaces and an outdoor water source is available. We'll confirm the details when you request a quote so the job can be scheduled smoothly.
